Henderson House

The brief for this house was simple: big wardrobe and a view of the surf from bed so the client knew whether to get up for a surf or not. The solution was a lot more complex than that - the result satisfiedthe brief and lots more.

The beach became the focus for this house. A split level was used to allow views down from the rear where most of the sun comes through. This also allowed the open plan spaces to be split into formal areas without cutting them off.

The simple roof planes unclutter the approach which is from above. The light shadowclad cladding over the stack bond concrete blocks gives the illusion that the house is floating out to the sea which is where these clients prefer to be
