Te Tāhuhu o Te Rangi

Located in the heart of Opōtki township, Te Tāhuhu o Te Rangi is a place for a bi-cultural community to gather. Boldly envisaged as a combination of library and digital services, the building will serve as a hub for business, arts, culture and community. Flexibility is maximised; the result is a vital piece of infrastructure that provides a base for residents to thrive.

Conceptually, the design references Tawhirinaki, a treasured local wharenui. Carved Pō tell local stories and connect to the whakapapa of Opōtki. The form of the wharenui meets the traditional pākehā transept shape – the building provides sense of wellbeing and belonging that connects cultures.
