The building is made up of several smaller forms which integrate into one larger form. The solid concrete masses create anchoring points to the house, connecting to the local beach hue and historic weatherboard construction of the area, with cedar cladding helping to soften and integrate the building with the surrounding hills. Glass bridges the gap between these materials create unique viewshafts of vistas.
The form and planning of the building considers the occupant experiencing the house. Recesses in the main volume create moments of retreat whilst projections of the smaller forms create moments of exposure. Lower volume spaces create intimacy and refuge, whilst larger spaces provide scale. Windows open more vertically, connecting the occupant with the exterior landscape, giving a sense of scale and lightness to the overall form. The clever play of juxtaposition between all elements help integrate the building into one overall form, creating a unique experience.
