Rototuna North House

The brief was to create an exemplar family homestead.

Materials and form were developed to complement the rural typologies while modern elements of screening and large expanses of glass are introduced to capture views and create a clearly modern interpretation of an otherwise classic building form. Stone veneer walls and chimneys are incorporated acting as grounding elements in strong contrast to the otherwise black exterior.

Family and entertaining became the primary design driver. A series of layered indoor and outdoor spaces are created, including courtyards connected to the wings of the house achieving varying levels of privacy and sun exposure.  

The large living, kitchen and dining wing was arranged to overlook to the pool, outdoor entertainment areas, tennis court and expansive lawns. More intimate media and library spaces are located off the living space.
