Community
Located in the heart of Ōpōtiki township, Te Tāhuhu o Te Rangi is a place for a bi-cultural community to gather. Boldly envisaged as a combination of library and digital services, the building serves as a hub for business, arts, culture, and community. Flexibility is maximised. Te Tāhu creates a vital piece of infrastructure that provides a base in which residents can thrive, learn, and engage.
Conceptually, the design references Tānewhirinaki, a treasured local wharenui. Carved pou tell local stories and connect to the whakapapa of Ōpōtiki. Te Tāhu links the form of a wharenui with the traditional pākehā church transept shape and provides a sense of wellbeing and belonging for all.
