Following a fire that gutted the Waiohiki Te Huinga Dining Hall in 2002, DGSE were enlisted to design the Waiohiki Marae and Community Complex.
Waiohiki Marae incorporates a traditional meeting house (Wharenui), a multipurpose dining hall and a Wānanga Manaaki facility to support the community at Waiohiki.
Each building expresses its own specific design mandate and relates to adjoining buildings in a harmonious and sympathetic manner.
The architectural approach is underlined by a comprehensive understanding of environmentally sustainable design and current directions in community planning.
