The house is located on the tidal beach front overlooking Huruhi Bay on Waiheke Island. Spanning the width of the site, the long house optimises sea views and provides shelter and privacy for the rear garden.
Designed as a super-insulated smart house, SIP (Structurally Insulated Panels) have been utilised for construction efficiency and structural and thermal performance. A glazed lantern over the central open-plan living area brings in daylight and fresh air. Automated lantern windows are managed via an exterior weather station providing wind speed, direction, and rain-sensor activation. Windows are thermostatically controlled internally.
The house is clad in dark cedar and roofed in trough metal profile, with selected areas of photo-voltaic adhesive mats generating up to 6.5KW of power.
Operable screens glide across the front of the house providing adaptable privacy and shelter. Interior materials consist of birch ply walls and large format heated tiles.
