The brief comprised of a new facility made up of three parts: the first zone houses a new reception to showcase everything Rocket Lab is about; the second zone supports Rocket Lab’s people, enhancing connectivity and creativity; the third zone is a high end rocket factory where ideas are transformed into reality.
DGSE worked in close partnership with Rocket Lab to create the first zone. The second and third were primarily designed and managed internally by Rocket Lab.
Early influences included 2001:A Space Odyssey. Rocket Lab and DGSE challenged the notion of gravity by celebrating spatial fluidity. Surface and embedded light in floors, walls, and ceilings merge together to create a transformative environment.
Central to the design is the Oculus, a visual pivot point of main space. This is dramatically formed by spiraling angled walls rising from the entrance portal.
