The building accommodates all the functions of a surf life saving club, while including community facilities.
While allowing for an expected 50-year rise in sea level, the site sits sensitively within an ecological coastal area. Our cultural, landscape and architectural teams developed a strong and iconic concept. The design represents two wings, the central circulation as the body and the watchtower at the head. The South ‘wing’ accommodates beach rescue vehicles, equipment and changing spaces.
The North wing sits higher on the natural dune offering sea and beach surveillance from the clubrooms. Level access is provided from the sand dunes to a large external open deck abutting the beach access.
